Puff, puff, PASS it Legally at this year’s Canna-friendly Enchanted Forest Gathering

Just ahead of one of the West Coast’s finest, intimate festivals, Enchanted Forest Gathering rolls out an expanded 215(Cannabis for those non-stoners)-zone for this weekend’s event. Now while smoking weed at a festival certainly is not new news, the initiatives EFG is implementing IS, and a perfect example of how the festival community may be shifting activations to embrace the legislation slated to go in effect next year, making weed legal for anyone in California, 21+.

TrailBLAZING the festival scene by hosting an on-site dispensary at last year’s gathering, this year The Emerald Forest (aka EFG’s Cannabis-friendly zone) will host that plus so much more. Partnering up with Cannacraft and Presto Doctor, the Emerald Forest is the place to be if you’re down to interact with 20 leading cannabusiness vendors, innovative keynote speakers, and some late night laughs courtesy of the new comedy stage, LOLounge.  Also found in the Emerald Forest this weekend is a full-service hookah lounge, alongside games and other activations.

PrestoDoctor will use their industry leading telemedicine technology to connects doctors to patients via iPads to offer free 215 prescription evaluations to attendees in celebration of the inaugural Emerald Forest – Pre-register online today to secure your on-site appointment.

Celebrating roots in Northern California’s Mendocino County, CannaCraft and the Enchanted Forest Gathering embrace the region’s heritage as the birthplace of Prop 215, the revolutionary piece of legislation that legalized the cultivation and sale of cannabis and cannabis products for use as medicine in California in 1996. Since that time, CannaCraft has become a worldwide leader in medical cannabis products; creating the popular brands AbsoluteXtracts, Care By Design, and Satori Chocolates, all the while, continuing to focus on patient wellness, education, and consultation and now bringing this movement to Enchanted Forest Gathering for a sublime weekend.

If weed just isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine too. EFG 2017 is foremost a festival that emphasizes incredible music, and this year is no exception. EFG is THE place to witness the only California and Oregon performance by godfather of glitch and bass music, Tipper, one of two appearances on the West Coast in 2017. Trust us when we say, you do not want to miss this.

Joining Tipper are Opiuo, Noisia, The Polish Ambassador, Tokimonsta, The Funk Hunters, Dimond Saints, The Floozies, The Pimps of Joytime, T Sisters, Sunsquabi, Scott Pemberton Band, and over 100 more musical acts.

Keeping the family vibes close but going big in production, EFG is a magical place to kick off your summer festival season. It’s not too late to join the party – VERY LIMITED tix for this weekend’s Enchanted Forest Gathering can be found here

Artist of the Week: Octopus Recordings Founding Father Sian

It’s been some time since I’ve stumbled across an artist so unique that I was curious to dive deeper into the method behind the madness. This time around it is Dublin-born, Spanish-raised, Los Angeles-transplant SIAN who infuses his broad range of personal interests into each piece of music he creates, and does so seemingly effortlessly.
His interests? Quite fascinating. They range from entomology, cosmology and marine biology, to the social impact of the rave generation and those influences can be seen in each of his original tracks  — more about that last bit in our exclusive interview 😉
A master of modern, classic techno, Sian is a man wearing many hats these days. With releases of his own and a record label, Octopus Recordings – among the top 5 labels of the  in the world in its genre – and  touring like a madman, it’s safe to say Sian is on the fast-track to having a blockbuster year.
We sat down with Octopus Recordings founder  SIAN just ahead of his epic house and techno showcase at Exchange LA this Saturday to pick his brain on a few topics — Enjoy!

‘Out Is In’ came out fairly recently. I’ve read in past articles that you aim to title tracks in a manner that hint the inspiration behind the track, or the creative process. Is this one of those instances? If so, can you share the story behind ‘Out Is In’?
Indeed, this track is built around that big, freaky vocal. It mirrors the production in the way that it goes round and round, gets weird, loops back on itself and eventually makes sense! Also the way the vocal is processed, lots of strange frequencies and phasor effects, kind of feels creepy and a little surreal, like many of todays news headlines!
What criteria do you use when considering an artist for your label, Octopus Recordings? Describe a striking moment in scouting new talent – perhaps a time where you found yourself completely and unexpectedly blown away?
For me it´s all about dedication to one idea, sticking with your crew and living it, 100%. There are so many talented artists out there, but the sweat and blood needed is key for us.The amount of hassle, bullshit, stress, drama and failure in every artists career, can only be handled by someone who really really wants to make it.I have seen so many people drop out fast, due to things not going their way immediately. The times i have seen this spirit in people early on, I instantly wanted to sign them to our roster.
Being born in Dublin, raised in Spain and now based in Los Angeles – three very different areas of the world – what kind of similarities do you find among the dance cultures of the three locations?
It seems like wherever you go in the world, a lot of smart young, (usually good looking) people gather around the electronic music scene, it sounds naive to say it unites people of similar demographic, but it kinda does.We often remark on how in any City i play or live in,we see a lot of striking similarities, the way people dress, dance or play—it´s super connected somehow.
What is the best part about curating a showcase such as your upcoming one at Exchange LA this weekend? The most challenging?
The best part is being able to show off what we do and bring in artists that we genuinely want to hear,we are taking over the whole lineup, so it´s purely our vibe! The challenge is always about making it perfect and going off without a hitch, the lights, sound and vibe at our shows requires a lot of attention, and we really put so much into every party.
Much of your inspiration and unique style of production is attributed to interests ranging from entomology, cosmology and marine biology, to the social impact of the rave generation, however is there a person in particular that you’ve also drawn inspiration from in establishing your career?
I´m really into Cinema,i try to look up to directors like Ridley Scott or Nicolas Winding Refn for both career and artistic inspiration,i love their futurist and forward thinking aesthetic, and also how their success was won with time, and perseverance.
Speaking of the social impact of the rave generation…would you like to elaborate on this a bit more for fans?
I think this music throws us all together and smashes down a lot of walls : gender, politics, religion, social class, etc.For example, growing up part time in Ireland we saw how people on all sides of borders, sexual orientation or income got down together, within a strictly Catholic country.
Summer is proving to be a busy season for you! What are you looking forward to most this summer?
Yes! It´s great to see our hard work moving things along,i have some important shows like Mexico City,LA,New York,Chicago,Miami,Bogota etc.I am super stoked to get on the road and showcase what´s coming on the label and my own release schedule!
When the madness dies down later this year, what are you looking forward to most?
I am thinking around October or November i might try take a week off and go scuba diving in Oahu or Maui, but i say that every year, and the madness never ends.
Many thanks to Sian!

#FreeTheNipple at Enchanted Forest Gathering

Yes, you read that correctly. #FreeTheNipple, a movement championing freedom of expression for all by proclaiming women should have the same rights as men when it comes to walking around topless, has been sweeping the nation by storm and now, infiltrated the festival circuit as well.

While the majority (if not all?) festivals implement some sort of no nudity rule, NorCal’s Enchanted Forest Gathering does things just a little bit differently. Deep in the heart of Northern California out at Black Oak Ranch an intimate festival with a grand scheme.

Enchanted Forest Gathering’s mission has been to nourish and activate personal growth within its participants, inspire collective sharing and redefine conscious celebration. This experiment inspires attendees to find deeper, more meaningful stimulation free of alcohol, setting a remarkably different tone for a gathering and encouraging new kinds of expression.

So bust out those nips and get ready to twerk your buns off  as Enchanted Forest Gathering gears up to celebrate its sixth year!

Get Up – Grensta x Elevator Musik

Spontaneity gives birth to some of the biggest moments in music history.  Oftentimes it is the reason behind some of our favorite tracks, newest inspirations and latest discoveries. As of late, I have been feeling a tad jaded, at least musically (having finally played out the Bieb’s Purpose album :P) until a couple weeks ago when a friend sent me a seemingly inconspicuous Soundcloud file entitled ‘Get Up,’ the brainchild of underground, gritty, house-techno producers GRENSTA and ELEVATOR MUSIK.

An impromptu text message from co-producer Elevator Musik to fellow collaborator Grensta sparked the creation of ‘Get Up’.

On its inception, Elevator Musik recalls “It all started with me messing around with a bassline on my moog synthesizer then I added some tweaked vocals and it just became the track… I sent it to Ryan (Grensta) for a feedback because we have been friends for a while and he was super pumped on it. He asked to collab and we finished it in a couple days.

The result? A grimy, booty-shaking, pure house track that’s sure to inspire its audience to GET UP, and find the nearest wall to twerk on.  Reminiscent of something you would hear off Dirtybird, Grensta and Elevator Musik’s inaugural foray into the scene is sure to thrill a wide fanbase, and leave everyone waiting for more.

The producers themselves? Both fresh and hailing from NorCal, these two friends are just beginning to leave their mark on the resurgent house music scene. Winner of Insomniac’s Discovery Project in 2015, Grensta shows no signs of slowing down in the coming year. Expect a lot more from Grensta, whose Soundcloud already boasts a slew of original tracks, remixes and mixes.

Elevator Musik, on the other hand, is an enigma as of late. Recently emerging on the scene, ‘Get Up’ is the first release from this mysterious artist. If ‘Get Up’ is any indication of what to expect from Elevator Musik, I think it’s safe to say we will see epic things coming from this artist — hopefully sooner than later 😉
